(ATLANTA, Aug. 11, 2023) – Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) today announced that Sherrie Spinks, general manager of Savannah Convention Center (SCC) since 2016, will retire at the end of August. Stephen Hall, SCC’s current assistant general manager and director of finance, will serve as interim general manager effective Sept. 1.
A 37-year convention and events industry veteran, Spinks has spent the past 26-plus years with GWCCA where she served as chief financial officer from 1997 – 2015 managing the Authority’s strategic financial operations as well as contributing to several high-profile citywide bid events, including Super Bowls, Final Fours, and SEC Championships. Sherrie also served on the development team for Mercedes-Benz Stadium. During her tenure as general manager, Savannah Convention Center was awarded LEED Gold certification and set numerous financial and attendee records.

From navigating the pandemic to overseeing the convention center’s recent expansion project, Sherrie has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to delivering an enhanced guest experience,” shared Frank Poe, executive director of GWCCA. “We thank her for her years of service and wish her the best in her retirement.”
GWCCA in partnership with the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority has initiated a national search for Spinks’ successor.
